Okay, so here we have Krushang. Hi Krushang, how are you? Krushang Hi Goldie bhai, I'm fine. How are you?RJ Goldie All good. How's everything going?Krushang Absolutely great. In top form.RJ Goldie First of all, congratulations, man.Krushang Thank you.RJ Goldie You've won the PU Code Hackathon.Krushang Thank you.RJ Goldie Truly praiseworthy.Krushang Thank you.RJ Goldie 1.5 lakh rupees in prize money.Krushang Thank you sir.RJ Goldie What are you going to do with 1.5 lakh rupees?Krushang We'll invest it somewhere.RJ Goldie You're Gujarati, aren't you?Krushang Yes, Gujarati.RJ Goldie Right, it goes into business first, doesn't it?Krushang Yes.RJ Goldie So, Krushang is a student of Parul Universityand he is a talented developer and a UI/UX designer, right Krushang? So tell us something about yourself before we go ahead in this live. Krushang I come from a small town, and I've travelled this far.RJ Goldie Wow.Krushang I started with design, then coding, and slowly I got this far. RJ Goldie Wow.Krushang Right now I'm in my seventh semester at Parul University.RJ Goldie Wow. Which town are you from?Krushang There's a town called Viramgam in Ahmedabad. I'm from there.RJ Goldie Viramgam?Krushang Yes, Viramgam.RJ Goldie Okay. Wow, that's great. So tell us something about your UI and UX journey. How was the journey for UI/UX? Krushang Yes, of course.UI/UX is really about how we decorate an application or a website. When COVID started, in its first phase, I slowly began learning from YouTube. I learned bit by bit, and taught myself everything. On my own from YouTube, with no course, and as I got the hang of it, I kept practising. Then clients slowly started coming, so I worked for them too. That's how my skills kept getting sharper. Design has no code in it, to begin with. Then I saw that design came easily, but it also has to be turned into code, which is called frontend. So I slowly moved into frontend, and that's how I got here. RJ Goldie Wow.So where did this interest suddenly come from? Where did the thought of learning UI/UX come from? Krushang I was always interested in computers and in learning something.Computers, laptops, anything digital always attracted me. Then COVID started, and while scrolling YouTube and watching Instagram, I noticed there was something called UI/UX. RJ Goldie Mm-hmm.Krushang So I looked into it, searched and researched, and spent a day or two seeing how it all works. My interest started to grow, because design is about doing creative things. It's about how creative your mind is, and I enjoy creative work more. RJ Goldie Okay.Krushang So I slowly tried being creative, and tried designing. That's how my interest kept growing. RJ Goldie And where did your interest in hackathons come from? What made you want to take part? Krushang Yes, that's a great story. At Parul there's a group, called the CEP cell, that runs short courses and crash courses. I joined one of them. It was an Android development course, and our whole friend circle was in it. I didn't even know what a hackathon was. A friend told me we should take part in one. I'm a simple village boy. I had no idea what a hackathon even was! But I was comfortable with coding and all that, so they told me I should take part. Especially Prashant sir, who was our mentor, and Smita Chauhan, who told me about the hackathon. They both told me we should take part. So we slowly looked into what a hackathon is. I asked them both what a hackathon actually was. They explained that you're given a problem statement, and you have to solve it. You bring a solution, like an application or a website. There are many hackathons, some government, some private. And you bring your solution to them. So I understood it, and slowly tried to see how it works. I took part, and once I'd done it, the fear was gone. After that we started going to many hackathons. We went to Pune, there was one here at Parul, and one in Vadodara too. Then I started enjoying it. It was interesting. RJ Goldie You started enjoying hacking?Krushang Actually, a hackathon isn't hacking, though in a way you could call it that. It's solution hacking, not real hacking. Hacking is a way of manipulating or deceiving people. That's what hacking is. In a hackathon, there's a statement. The government might put one out, saying Ahmedabad's AMTS or BRTS buses need an app with live tracking. Governments often run hackathons like this. The statement says they need an application or a platform like this. Then students take part in that statement. Join in and bring us a solution, they say, and we'll give you money, a prize or a reward, or offer you a good job. Many teams are from Gujarat, and some from other states. Everyone joins in and shows their performance and skills, and then they bring a solution. That's a hackathon. RJ Goldie Great. So how do you think your achievementsreflect the quality of education and support at Parul University? Krushang Yes, Parul University has helped me a lot.Because I developed my skills myself, and polished them as much as I could during COVID. But the university gave me a direction and a platform. I didn't know about hackathons at all. I took sir's course, and went to the CEP cell. My friend suggested it too, and that gave me a direction. Because knowledge without direction is of no use. Knowledge that stays with you alone is of no use. I got a platform, and that's how Parul University helped me so much, by giving me direction. RJ Goldie Wow!So can you share any memorable experiences collaborating with the faculty or fellow students at the university that have positively impacted your growth as a developer or designer? Any collaboration with a sir, the faculty or a fellow student, any memorable experience, please share it with me. Krushang I'm not that closely connected with any faculty. But Prashant sir, whom I mentioned, told me this the first time we met. So we're not that close. But he's the one who told me how it works. And he told me this was worth pursuing, and that it would surely help me in future. That's how Prashant sir gave me direction. Many people in our department help in one way or another. Karnavi ma'am is always doing something like this. Shaleen sir keeps helping in some way too. Whenever I need technical support, they definitely help. RJ Goldie Do you have any special future projectsin software development or UI/UX design? Tell us about them. Krushang Yes, I do.Actually, that's the project we won this hackathon with. Our project is about local services. We're thinking of starting a startup with it in future. We'll build that same idea in the startup. We're Gujarati, so business comes to mind first. The idea came to me from this. My mum was at home and the tap was dripping. Water was leaking. She'd been telling my dad for two or three days that it was dripping. Get the tap fixed, get the tap fixed, get the tap fixed. But Dad wasn't getting it done. I said there should be a platform for this, so the service reaches any ordinary person, at home or in a village. Plumbing services, electrician services, AC repair, home cleaning, whatever it is. Home cleaning would be great for bachelors. I'm in college now, and I just can't manage cleaning a house. But imagine if we had a platform where, with one click, one touch of a finger, someone comes home and does the work. How good would that be? So you could call this idea local services. We'll provide a platform for local services. We'll build a startup on that idea, I'll do the design myself, and we'll get some help with the coding. I'm not that far along in coding yet. I'm learning bit by bit. But we'll launch this as a startup, one hundred percent. RJ Goldie That's great! All the very best.We pray your plans succeed. Krushang Thank you.RJ Goldie And thank you so much for joining in in this live. The many people who joined will have learned a lot too. UI/UX, hackathons, so much new information. So thank you very much for sharing all of that too. Right? Thank you so much. Thank you. Take care. Krushang Have a great day.RJ Goldie Thank you. Bye.So that was Krushang Patel, a student of Parul University. There was a hackathon, and he was the winner, which is why we were talking with him today. And now it's time for me to go back to my show. Yes, my show is on. I've asked the question, and the answers are coming in. If you want to win prizes too, tune in to 94.3 My FM right now, and you can answer the question and win a lot of prizes. For now, I have to say goodbye. Thank you all for joining in this live. If possible, I'll keep doing lives like this so we can also have a conversation sometimes. It had been pending for a long time. I hadn't gone live in a long time. We haven't talked in a long time. So thank you very much for joining in. If there's anything else, just DM me. Thank you. Have a great evening. Bye bye.
